A seasonaly appropriate film from Takagi Masakatsu. If you were following me a year ago you might have seen this already. If you are following me a year from now you’ll probably see it again. Maybe make this full-screen and see if you can spare six minutes to hit play and just look at it without doing anything else. If you need to be on drugs to do something like that so be it.
Saw the Macy’s fireworks from the roof of a high-rise near Lincoln Centre; kind of surprised to see how many people spent the time phone-video-recording, even when fireworks don’t seem like something you’d want to watch twice — so ephemeral and in-the-moment.
One of my favourite parts of watching fireworks is the exquisite gap between seeing the lights appear and hearing the “bang!” so far after, a demonstration of sound’s slow speed. This video seems to abstractly attain that kind of sensual disconnect.
